At Norton Hill, we believe that every child is unique, every child has something wonderful to offer, and every child deserves the opportunity to shine. Our role is to discover what makes each individual child special, nurture their talents and interests, and provide them with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to flourish.

We want children to be excited to come to school. We want them to ask questions, explore ideas, make connections, solve problems, be creative, take risks and, most importantly, remain curious about the world around them. Learning at Norton Hill Primary is not simply about what happens in a classroom or what can be recorded in a book. It is about creating experiences, making memories and developing a lifelong love of learning.

We are incredibly proud of our school and the educational experience we are creating for children in Midsomer Norton and the surrounding communities. Our vision extends far beyond academic achievement. We place equal importance on developing the whole child — nurturing their social and emotional wellbeing, building resilience, encouraging independence and helping every child become a confident, kind and compassionate member of our community.

Curiosity is at the heart of Norton Hill Primary. Through our strong focus on STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics — we encourage children to wonder why, ask what if? and discover how?. We want our pupils to look at the world with a sense of fascination and possibility, understanding that they have the power to shape the future.

This spirit of discovery runs throughout our curriculum. Our specialist learning spaces for Art, Music, STEM and Design Technology provide children with opportunities to create, experiment and develop new skills. Our extensive outdoor learning spaces give children the freedom to explore, investigate and learn beyond the classroom, while our commitment to the Arts and Sport ensures that children have opportunities to discover talents and passions in many different areas.

We also want our children to look beyond their primary years and begin to imagine the possibilities that lie ahead. Through experiences that develop creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, communication and independence, we help children develop the life skills and aspirations they will need for the future.

For our youngest children, Curiosity Corner, our on-site nursery, provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for children aged 2.8 to 4 years. It is the beginning of our voyage of discovery, where children can explore, play, build relationships and develop a love of learning from their very first steps into education. We also provide wrap-around care before and after school for children attending both Norton Hill Primary School and Curiosity Corner, supporting families with flexible childcare options.

We know that children achieve their very best when school and home work together. Our parents and carers are an important part of our school family, and we value the relationships we build with them. Our staff are committed to listening, supporting and working alongside families to ensure that every child feels understood, encouraged and able to thrive.

Above all, Norton Hill Primary is a school where everyone belongs. We want every child to feel safe, valued, respected and confident enough to be themselves. We celebrate individuality, embrace difference and encourage our children to show kindness, empathy and respect towards others.
